1. About this Policy
This policy explains how tapfilterguide.com (the "Site") handles information. The Site is an independent product-research guide that compares water filters and links to retailers that sell them. In this policy, "we," "us," and "our" mean the operator of this Site.
We are not a retailer. We do not sell products, take orders, process payments, or ship anything. When you decide to buy, you leave this Site for a retailer such as Amazon, and that retailer's own privacy policy applies from that point forward.
2. What We Collect
This Site has no forms. There is no contact form, no newsletter signup, no account, no comment box, and no chat widget. Nothing on this Site asks you to type in your name, email, or any other personal detail. We collect no personal information from you directly.
What is collected automatically, and only if you consent to analytics:
- Approximate location (city or region level, derived from IP address — IP anonymization is enabled)
- Browser type and version, operating system, and device type
- The page you arrived from and the pages you viewed here
- Date, time, and general duration of your visit
- Which product links you clicked, recorded as an anonymous event so we know which recommendations are useful
This is aggregate measurement data. We use it to understand which comparisons help people, not to identify you.
3. Cookies & Analytics
This Site uses Google Analytics 4. Analytics storage is set to denied by default and is only enabled if you accept it on the cookie banner. We do not run advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or cross-site tracking of our own.
| Cookie / Technology | Purpose | Category | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
cookie_consent_v1 | Remembers your cookie choice so we do not ask on every page. | Strictly necessary | Until you clear it (localStorage) |
_ga, _ga_<id> | Google Analytics 4. Aggregate site usage. IP anonymization on; Google Signals and ad-personalization signals off. | Analytics (consent-based) | Up to 14 months |
| Amazon cookies | Set by Amazon after you click through to their site, so they can credit us for the referral and run your shopping session. | Third-party (set by Amazon) | Typically 24 hours for referral attribution; see Amazon's policy |
4. Affiliate Links & Amazon
Here is what that means for your privacy, specifically:
- Our product buttons route through a
/go/link on our own domain, which immediately redirects you to the retailer. That redirect exists to keep links tidy and updatable — it does not collect personal information about you. - The retailer's link includes an affiliate tag identifying us as the referrer. That tag tells Amazon which site sent you. It does not tell Amazon who you are, and it does not tell us who you are.
- We never see your order. We receive aggregate commission reports — what was bought and when — with no customer names, addresses, emails, or payment details.
- Once you are on Amazon, Amazon's cookies and privacy policy govern. We have no control over them and no access to them.
Our recommendations are our own. Earning a commission does not change which products we rank highly.
5. How We Use Information
- To understand which guides and comparisons people find useful.
- To see which product recommendations get clicked, in aggregate, so we know what to keep researching.
- To keep the Site working correctly and secure.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not build profiles, serve ads, or make any decision about an individual.
6. We Do Not Sell Your Information
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We have no data broker relationships. Since we do not collect personal information in the first place, there is nothing to sell.
7. Third-Party Services
- Google Analytics 4. Aggregate, privacy-configured analytics, loaded only after you consent.
- Netlify. Website hosting and the
/go/affiliate redirects. Keeps standard server logs for security and troubleshooting. - Amazon. The retailer we most often link to. Reached only when you click a product link; governed by Amazon's own privacy notice.
8. Your Choices
- Decline analytics. Choose "Reject" on the cookie banner. Nothing on the Site stops working.
- Change your mind. Clear this site's storage in your browser and the banner returns.
- Avoid affiliate cookies entirely. Note the product name from our comparison and search for it directly at the retailer instead of clicking our link. You will get the same product; we simply will not earn a commission.
- Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a GPC signal, we honor it as an opt-out of sale and targeted advertising — neither of which we do.
- Browser controls. Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, including third-party cookies.
9. Your State Privacy Rights
A growing number of states have comprehensive consumer-privacy statutes granting rights to access, correct, delete, and port personal data, and to opt out of sale, targeted advertising, and profiling. Each applies only to businesses above certain size thresholds, and a site of this size falls below them. We are telling you that plainly rather than implying obligations we do not have.
What we do anyway. If you contact us, we will tell you what data we hold about you and delete it. Because this Site has no forms, the honest answer in nearly every case is that we hold nothing that identifies you.
If your state grants you a right after the date at the top of this page, we will honor it whether or not we have updated this section yet.
10. Security & Retention
The Site is served over HTTPS. We keep the small amount of data described above only as long as it is useful:
- Google Analytics data: up to 14 months.
- Web-server logs: typically up to 90 days.
- Your cookie preference: stored in your own browser until you clear it. We never see it.
No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Children's Privacy
This Site is intended for adults shopping for household equipment. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this policy. The "Last Updated" date at the top shows when the current version took effect. Material changes will be noted on this page for a reasonable period.
